Our Community, Our Center:
Owatonna Facilities Planning Process
The City of Owatonna is committed to delivering the services and amenities that community members expect and want.
After thoroughly assessing City-owned facilities, the City identified more than 90 buildings and structures and their surrounding sites that require annual maintenance and long-term investments to preserve their value and serve the community well.
In 2022, the City began asking the community how best to preserve these assets while making investments for current needs and future growth. Using resident feedback and a facility assessment, the City created a plan that prioritizes essential repairs and improvements at City-owned facilities and explores new facilities to continue meeting community members’ needs into the future.
The City completed upgrades to the City Council Chambers in 2023 and Merrill Hall in 2024. The City also conducted a detailed facilities assessment of the fire and police department facilities in 2024 and is currently evaluating how to address the needs of these facilities. The City has also launched the Our Community, Our Center initiative to consider ways to meet community members’ long-desired priority of a new community center in Owatonna.
City leadership is committed to ensuring Owatonna remains a vibrant place where community members and businesses thrive. By preserving facilities and making thoughtful, planned improvements, Owatonna community members can continue experiencing a high quality of life.
